Aspiring percussionist, arranger, and tutor Marcus Hawkins continues to evolve how music is perceived and performed through the combination of choral and percussion fields. Through his experiences in several premier university-level large and chamber ensembles as well as in several student organizations, he is inspired to continue to create opportunities for concertgoers of all kinds to experience his works. Marcus currently attends the Fred Fox School of Music at the University of Arizona where he serves as an assisting music director of two student-led ensembles: its premier a cappella ensemble CatCall A Cappella and its Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Additionally, Marcus serves as a tutor of a variety of music classes through the S.A.L.T. Center. His arrangements in choir and percussion have been performed and created an impact in several ensembles; including the choir and percussion programs at Cienega High School, CatCall A Cappella, The UA “SteelCats”, CrossTALK, and the Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. Outside of his duties as a student, he can be found either having fun at the jukebox at his local Round1 Arcade or solving highly unusual and non-traditional hand-crafted sudoku puzzles.
